My name is danah boyd and I am a Social Media Researcher at Microsoft Research New England and a Fellow at Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet and Society. I recently completed my PhD at the School of Information (iSchool) at the University of California (Berkeley). My research examines social media, youth practices, tensions between public and private, social network sites, and other intersections between technology and society.

In my dissertation, I investigated how American teenagers socialize in networked publics like MySpace, Facebook, LiveJournal, Xanga and YouTube. I was interested in how the architectural differences between unmediated and mediated publics affect sociality, identity and culture.My dissertation research was funded as a part of the MacArthur Foundation's Initiative on New Media and Learning. My research was supervised by a most astonishing committee: Mimi Ito, Annalee Saxenian, Cori Hayden, and Jenna Burrell. My beloved PhD advisor - Peter Lyman - lost his battle with brain cancer in July 2007. I miss him dreadfully.

In recent years, I have studied Twitter, blogging, social network sites (e.g. Friendster, MySpace, Facebook...), tagging, and other forms of social media. I have written papers on a variety of different topics, from digital backchannels to social visualization design, sexing of internet interactions to creating artifacts for memory work. I also blog and tweet frequently on a wide variety of topics. Along with other members of the MacArthur Foundation-funded project on digital media and learning, I helped co-author a newly published book: Hanging Out, Messing Around, and Geeking Out: Kids Living and Learning with New Media.

I did my Master's Degree at the MIT Media Lab's Sociable Media Group with Judith Donath (supervised also by Henry Jenkins and Genevieve Bell). My master's thesis focused on how people manage their presentation of self in relation to social contextual information in online environments. As an undergraduate, I studied computer science at Brown University, advised by Andy van Dam. My undergrad thesis focused on how prioritization of depth cues is dependent on levels of sex hormones in the body and how this affects engagement with virtual reality.

Outside of academia, I have worked at various non-profits and corporations. For five years, I worked at V-Day, an organization working to end violence against women and girls worldwide. I helped build an online community to support activists around the world and I continue to do volunteer work for them. For a complete bio, click here.

Большие новости. Поисковик Bing объявил о партнерстве с социальной сетью Facebook для получения публичных данных кнопок Like It, которые сейчас доступны практически на каждом сайте.

В скором времени, выдача Bing будет предлагать пользователям варианты результатов поиска одобренные их друзьями. Ниже пример, который приводится в анонсе команды Bing.

Пользователь ищет рестораны в Сан-Франциско и кроме обычной выдачи получает результаты связанные с рекомендации его друзей, в данном случае, друг по имени Adam Sohn порекомендовал заведение Alexander’s Steakhouse.

Эта интеграция окажет огромное влияние на поиск. Теперь занимаясь поиском книги по какой-то технологии вы увидите рекомендации нескольких ваших друзей из Facebook и в зависимости от вашего мнения о персоне, предпочтете тот или иной вариант. Вы ищите по названию фильма информацию о нем и видите друзей которые рекомендуют этот фильм. Поиск становится персональным!

На самом деле вариантов использования Like it великое множество и это нововведение дает Bing огромное конкурентное преимущество, по крайней мере, пока данная возможность не появится в других поисковиках.

Другой возможностью в Bing станет поиск людей по Facebook:

Кроме людей, которые уже в ваших друзьях, вы сможете найти по фамилии человека, который в друзьях у ваших друзей и сразу же перейти к нему на страницу в Facebook.

Вот уж так сюрприз! Буквально несколько часов назад техно-портал Engadget поделился неожиданной и радостной для iМаньяков новостью. Apple приглашает СМИ на конференцию под названием «Back to Mac», которая пройдет всего лишь через неделю. Что нас там ждёт?

Новый 11-дюймовый MacBook Air, слухи о котором ходят уже четыре с лишним месяца? iPhone с поддержкой CDMA-сетей? Новый iLife или новая версия Mac OS X? А если всё вместе? Каким-нибудь из этих уже устоявшихся слухов суждено выйти на финишную прямую 20 октября в 10 часов дня по тихоокеанскому времени. Или в 6 вечера по Москве.

Похоже все проблемы с батареей идут от скайп в фоне. Сегодня протестирую время жизни без него. В интернете нашел много ругани по этому поводу. При запущенном скайпе батарея полностью расходуется за 10-15 часов.

SPGraphviz - create your own visualization graphs without programming in Sharepoint. Just define graph on DOT language in simple text file, upload it into document library and specify URL in SPGraphvizWebPart - it will visualize your graph using graphical representation

Usage

• Define graph using the DOT language in simple .txt file. E.g. the graph shown at the beginning of this page is defiend using the following file:

digraph example { size="6,6"; node [color=lightblue2, style=filled]; "Start page" -> "Departments"; "Start page" -> "News"; "Start page" -> "Personal sites"; "Departments" -> "IT"; "Departments" -> "HR"; "Departments" -> "Sales"; "Personal sites" -> "Alexey Sadomov"; "Personal sites" -> "..."; }

As you see it is quite straightforward: you define digraph and relationships between nodes. DOT is very flexible language, but you don't need to know it deeply. For simple scenarios you can use this example as a reference. For more layout settings you can check examples from Graphviz gallery

• Upload created .txt file with graph definition into document library in your site collection

• Specify absolute URL of uploaded file in web part properties (Custom Properties > Dot file URL):

(in our example I specified the following URL in "Dot file URL" property: http://example.com/Documents/test.txt)

• Click Apply. Graphical representation of the graph will be shown on the publishing page:

Первые впечатления от Iphone4

Выглядит он также как и прошлый не сильно тоньше. Довольно тяжел.

Батарею кушает как андроид (многозадачность бля).

Фото и видео неплохо но и не фонтан.

HDR реально прикольно иногда дает результат лучше иногда хуже.

Интерфейс много быстрее чем у 3g. Управление в тех же играх работает четчет.

Многозадачность айс в скайп, google mobile app и в навител навигатор. Теперь при звонке не надо заново открывать.

Куча мелких улучшений которые реально помогают. Голосовое управление и т.п.

Результат ожидал большего но и то что есть неплохо.
